Sizing your articles - an overview

Zalando is online in over 20 markets and continues to grow. As different countries have different sizing conventions, it’s important to make sure that customers across our vast market network can shop on the basis of the size system they are most familiar with. Therefore, to translate sizes to a standard format, we use Zalando-specific size charts.

At Zalando we differentiate between five sizing systems:

1. European (EU)

2. French (FR) (Spain is based on the French sizing system)

3. Italian (IT)

4. British (UK)

5. North American (US)

Different brands and partners have different size conversions. To align your size charts with the Zalando sizing standards, we offer a Size chart Management tool in zDirect that allows you to easily identify the appropriate size charts. • Firstly, it’s strongly advised that you use the Size finder tool to check if Zalando already has the sizes you are using on file. If we do, then you can just let us know which size chart you use.

• If you are having trouble using the Size Finder tool, or if you can’t find corresponding Zalando size chart codes for your sizing conventions, you can use the Size Chart template. We’ll then use the information you share in the Size Chart template to find or generate correct size chart codes according to Zalando’s sizing standards. Providing size chart information is one of the requirements that is essential to go live on the platform. The size chart information you provide is used to prepare specific size grids which will be displayed on the Product Detail Pages (PDPs). Customers can refer to these size grids to help them make the right purchase decisions faster. Therefore, correct size charts have a direct impact on: 

• Driving article sales and providing positive user experience

• Reducing size related returns and corresponding costs

When using the Size Chart Management tool in zDirect, it’s important to fill in the fields accurately. Correct size chart information is essential to onboard articles during the Integration stage and whenever you plan to onboard more articles after going live on the platform.  

Integrating with Zalando and successfully onboarding your articles cannot be completed without correct size information. The size is a mandatory piece of information that must be included for every article you want to onboard, so not having this information can delay you going live on the Zalando platform. 

Once you go live on Zalando, size grids will help provide a positive user experience and drive sales, as well as decreasing size-related returns. Size chart information is also necessary whenever you want to onboard more articles to the platform.
