What is Mix & Match?

Mix & Match lets you group complementary articles from your brand to showcase together on Zalando. By grouping matching styles, fabrics or patterns (such as a bikini top and bottom, or a suit blazer and trousers), you help customers discover and buy full sets.

On product detail pages, items appear under dedicated sections such as Matching items or Perfect pairings for beauty products. Allowing customers to select different sizes for each item solves fit challenges, increases order value and lowers size-related returns.

Included use cases

  • Tailoring: Blazer, vest and trousers

  • Beachwear: Bikini top, bottom and beach accessories

  • Underwear and nightwear: Bras, briefs, pyjama tops and bottoms

  • Sports and tracksuits: Sports bras, t-shirts, joggers and leggings

  • Jewellery and accessories: Necklaces, earrings, bracelets or bags with matching wallets

  • Beauty: Complementary products addressing the same routine (e.g. shampoo and conditioner)

Excluded combinations

  • Curated outfits ("Shop the look"): Stylist-selected combinations across different brands

  • Collections: Seasonal theme groupings spanning multiple brands

  • Similar items: Non-complementary items or articles with the same purpose (e.g. two swimsuits)

  • Mixed assortments: Combining adult and kids articles in one set

Key benefits

  • Increased conversion: Mix & Match articles show a 3% to 5% increase in add-to-basket rates.

  • Lower return rates: Customers can select different sizes for matching tops and bottoms, reducing fit-related returns.

  • Full autonomy: Create, edit and delete product sets directly in zDirect with updates going live within 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 3: Review validation checks and resolve errors

  1. When attempting to add non-compliant articles, zDirect displays specific validation errors on the Set creation page.

  2. Check for the following error scenarios:

  3. Existing set assignment: If a Zalando article variant already belongs to an existing set, an error alert will display.

  4. Colour attribute mismatch: If an article's primary colour tag differs from the reference colour of the set, its colour name will highlight in red.

  5. If an error is detected, the Create set button in the bottom-right corner will remain disabled.

  6. Remove or replace the problematic article variant until all automated checks pass and the Create set button becomes active.

Step 4: Publish your set

  1. Once all variants pass validation, select Create set to confirm.

  2. Your set will be published and appear live on Zalando product pages within 5 to 10 minutes.
