Secure Data Transmission with the SFTP Setup

Here you'll find how to ensure secure data transfers with Zalando through the SFTP and SSH Key Authorization.

What is the SFTP Setup?

Secure File Transfer Protocol, or SFTP, is a protocol that allows the transmission of data with partners in a much more secure environment. Sending confidential information such as invoices, csv and payment advice through email could be considered a risk in IT terms, for that reason the SFTP setup allows us to have the chance to have a much secure environment with partners.

The SFTP server that we are using is hosted by Zalando, and only SSH key (Secure Shell)  authorization is supported. Zalando can provide you with a username, and you can choose to create the public keys yourself or Zalando can create the private key.

The SFTP setup can also be used by you if the delivery of invoices, csv. files, etc. should not be done by email: for example, if they can't be received by email due to a high number of documents.

What is an SFTP key?

An SFTP key is part of a two-factor authentication process that enhances the security of SFTP protocol by adding a layer beyond passwords. It involves a pair of keys: a private key held by the user and a public key stored on the server.

The SFTP public key can be provided by ZALANDO or directly by the partner as a private key.
