Glossary

To ensure efficient processing of your article images, an understanding of our image terms is essential. An image term describes the type of image that is required for a successful onboarding of your article. Below you’ll find the Image terms, the type of assortment that this image is used for and a detailed description of what it means.

General image requirements

Our image requirements vary depending on what they will be used for on our website. Please adhere to them to ensure smooth and efficient processing of your article images and thus the processing of your articles.

This overview is intended to introduce you to the technical requirements your images have to fulfil, in order to be accepted by Zalando.

Minimum size: 762 x 1100 pixels

Packshot views

For packshot views it's important to remember that primary packshots must have a white background. We do accept packshot view with colours from the background colour range, but these aren't allowed as primary packshots, but as additional view only.

To make sure your model view is suitable as a catalogue view, use our background colour range for a compliant background colour. We accept model views with a white background, but they cannot be used as the front crop.

Photographing Jewellery

In jewellery photography, capturing high-quality images is essential. Using a white background with light shadows helps to accentuate the details and symmetry, while ensuring that articles are presented at their best. Each jewellery article should be shown from multiple angles, focusing on key aspects like fasteners, engravings, and decorative elements to capture customer interest. Please make sure to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • For the Primary packshot, centre the article vertically and position it in the lower third of the image grid. Please find supporting guidance in this section of the Zalando image guidelines.

  • Avoid overexposure

  • Remove any dust and make sure that there are no scratches

  • Present each article with emphasised symmetry

  • Ensuring important details like the inside of the jewelry and fasteners are fully visible, either through images or descriptions specifying the fastener type

  • The quality of the material must be visible: whether matt or shiny

  • Colour fastness is very important and the article colour should match the colour transmitted

  • For sets:

    • a primary packshot is required, clearly showing all items included

    • A back view must be available in which the fasteners of each article can be seen

    • Brand logos are not allowed to be shown upside down

  • Battery-operated watches must always have a CE label. Please provide at least one image where the label is clearly visible, whether on the watch or its packaging. Automatic watches do not require a CE label. For more information, refer to this article:

Jewellery model appearance

Models should complement the jewellery with a polished appearance that allows the pieces to shine. Please ensure adherence to the following guidelines:

  • Always show the full length/size of the article in the model view

  • Models should enhance the jewellery's appeal through poses that showcase the full length and, if possible, show features of each article like fasteners, engravings, and any distinctive design elements.

  • The presentation of the model should be authentic and elegant. Create a good basis for the jewellery article.

Best practice image examples

The following image examples illustrate the required visuals across the assortment, highlighting best-practice model poses, acceptable backgrounds, and specific guidelines for single articles, multipacks, and sets.
